Structural & Formwork SWMS Templates
SWMS for structural work including timber framing, formwork erection, tilt-up panels and precast concrete installation.
Formwork and the erection of precast concrete elements are both defined HRCW types under WHS Regulations Schedule 3. Structural framing work, while not always independently listed as HRCW, commonly intersects with working-at-heights and structural-integrity HRCW triggers.
Work in this category includes: fabrication and erection of formwork for suspended slabs, columns and walls; falsework and temporary support structures; structural timber framing for floor and roof systems; installation of precast concrete panels and elements; tilt-up panel erection; and steel portal frame assembly.
Formwork must be designed by a suitably qualified engineer who provides a written formwork design and approval document before erection commences. The design must address stripping sequences, re-propping requirements and the maximum concrete pour rate to prevent formwork failure under hydraulic pressure. An inspection by the supervising engineer or nominated competent person must be completed before any concrete is placed.
Precast and tilt-up work requires an engineered lift study (see also Crane, Lifting & Rigging category) and documented bracing design prepared by the structural engineer of record. The SWMS must specify the required crane configuration, bracing installation sequence, wind speed limits for panel erection, and the inspection and approval hold point before any temporary bracing is released.
Timber Framing
Safe Work Method Statement for the erection of timber wall frames, roof trusses and floor systems on residential and commercial construction projects. Applies where structural framing work involves a risk of falling more than 2 metres.
Formwork Erection and Stripping
Safe Work Method Statement for the erection, use, and stripping of formwork and falsework systems for concrete structures, addressing falls from height, structural collapse, and manual handling risks in accordance with AS 3610 and Australian WHS Regulations.
Tilt-Up Panel Construction
Safe Work Method Statement for the casting, lifting, and bracing of tilt-up concrete panels, including slab preparation, crane operations, and temporary bracing until the structure is complete.
Precast Concrete Installation
Safe Work Method Statement for the delivery, handling, and installation of precast concrete elements including beams, columns, stairs, and wall panels, covering crane operations, rigging, and structural connection works.
Steel Frame Erection
Safe Work Method Statement for the erection of structural steel frames including columns, beams, and roof members for commercial and industrial buildings, addressing crane operations, working at height, and bolted connections.
Concrete Slab Construction
Safe Work Method Statement for the construction of ground slabs and elevated suspended slabs including preparation, reinforcement placement, concrete placement, and finishing operations.
